Mural in Orchards District
I live in the Orchards district of Vancouver. It actually comprises a bit of territory, but this intersection is kind of the heart of the area. At least, I think it is. One day, some years back and I don't remember exactly how long, as the passage of time gets distorted for me, but let's just say 6 years ago or so, an artist started working on this mural. We pass through this intersection on our way home, as the freeway exit is before this street, so we would see the progress on this mural over the course of a few weeks, or however long it took him to do it. This depicts the area when it was 'orchards' and that is the Orchards Feed Mill, which I have blipped before. It is located behind these buildings. The artist used an old photo from the Historical Society to do the workers in the field. I guess a trolly used to come out this way. I love how they incorporated plantings to go with it and so far no one has defaced this mural. I enjoy seeing it every time I stop at the traffic light.
Found this site that tells it in more detail...
Orchards
I've been intending to blip this for awhile, and tried to get a photo once, but I was on the sidewalk right in front of the mural, and I was too close to it, because as you can see, it's quite large. So today I was across the street and I guess it works better.
