Victoria Park

I got up early this morning for my white water kayaking lesson. We checked the Rakaia river flow on the web and it was 173 cumecs (cubic metres per second). Perfect (cut off for us was to be 200 cumecs).

We loaded the kayaks up and drove out to the Rakaia gorge bridge. Usually the river here winds around and is a lovely turquoise colour. I got out of the car to see a grey river running bank to bank with standing waves. "That looks scary" I said to the instructor. "Is it scary?" His reply - "We're not going anywhere near that". It turned out to be 550 cumecs - the website hadn't been updated. So, lesson postponed.

Instead I went to Victoria Park for a BBQ with my family and two others, including Pixelsmiths. And very nice it was too.
