Nor' Easter

Christchurch is famous for it's predominant North Easterly wind. the Nor' Wester has more character, but the Nor' Easter is there most of the time. Today she was howling like a full force gale.

I spent the day on the Waimakariri river having my flat-water kayak lesson - learning to paddle a multi sport boat. Hard work, great fun. Fortunately the water was warm for the forced swim. In the words of the instructor - "paddle down to me, then tip upside down and swim to shore". It's quite a hard thing to psyche yourself up to do - deliberately turn upside down in a kayak in moving water. But then you just do it and it's not so bad. All good experience - white water tomorrow. Feeling a little anxiety, but so tired after today I should sleep well tonight.
