The First Lunch
It's true, you know, I don't even know how to boil an egg! At least not Brazilian ones, which seem to have a built in resistance to being boiled! It took four attempts to get these two more or less presentable to camera and more importantly edible; if I had had 'soldiers' to go with them, they would have drowned in the slop!
But nevertheless it was mission accomplshed and the exotic fruit (Brazil has more fruit types than any other country in the world), and eggs, were placed on our new plastic tenant-proof plates, which came at a pound a throw, so one can't complain.
The orange fruit is papaya or mamoa, and the green one wth the white inside and big black seeds is 'fruta do conde' (The Count's Fruit, I think; it was certainly expensive enough for a Count). You munch into it and eat the white clammy/juicy envelopes, and spit out the seeds that spring into your mouth. The taste is different and I can't compare it to anything....easily aquireable, once you get used to squidy-looking texture!
