Faces of Death
My husband actually took this photo as some idiot took her camera out but left the battery behind in its charger. It has been badly GIMPed by me to bring out the writing a bit better.
This is the title of a talk I am giving tonight which will look at Victorian Post Mortem photographs and our modern attitude to death and bodies. This gravestone, while pre-Victorian, illustrates the frequency with which children died before the 20th century. Today in the UK, the death rate for under five's is 5 in every 1000 births. In Victorian times it was 500.
I still keep adding bits to the talk so I hope it will be alright..
