Creativity

Our son has really been showcasing his creativity in the last several months. We began to see these changes take place at his preschool earlier this year. Instead of bringing home his usual paper airplanes, they became 'turbo blaster paper airplanes' with guys drawn on the wings and then moved to 4ft long paper jets with turbo blasters. The other day he came home with a shoe box decorated with tape, paper tubes, little mini paper cups, and a drawing of a guy. It was his rendition of a 'Star Wars Ship'. And right now the shelves in his room and in our family room are full of his paper creations. He has always been a builder and a constructor. Every since he was an itty bitty little boy. And now he is adding his own personal touches to his building creations.

The tripod. In this blip he is using my old tripod. And taped to the top is his kiddie digital camera. He had hoped that he could screw his camera onto the tripod like I can with my Nikon but was disappointed to find that his little camera did not have that feature. So he taped it on. And it worked. He was delighted.

His other creative invention today was a car seat skateboard. He took a car seat that was in the garage and tried several different methods of connecting it to the skateboard. Bungee cords. Zip ties. Even tie downs. His plan was that he would buckle himself into the car seat with his helmet on and ride down our driveway sitting in the car seat that would be attached to his skateboard. This didn't actually happen because after trying several different ideas and not being able to secure the car seat to the skateboard, he gave up and took the bungees to create something else.

The pinata. Soon the bungees were used to build his very own pinata. He attached his bike helmet to one end of the bungee and attached the other end to a low tree branch. Then he used the handle end of a broom and hit the helmet around for a while. And then the helmet became a seat for his 'Mystery Dog', his stuffed animal. And soon he was photographing Mystery sitting in the bike helmet with his camera taped to the tripod.

It's been a creative day for him. And the day isn't even over. He gets to spend some one on one time with his Daddy tonight (our little honey girl isn't feeling well) so I'm sure, I am confident, that his little projects are not quite done for the day. I love the look of this photo in black & white. Even though he prefers color. But he said to me before the two of them left for our friend's house for dinner, "It's okay Mommy, you can make it without color this time". He's such a little love. A creative little love.
