Romania Day 1- Transilvania

Vlad Dracula the Impaler, notorious ruler of Wallachia, fought against the Turks to keep Wallachia independent. People wrote of his extreme cruelty to prisoners, whom he punished by impaling them on wooden stakes. It was his notoriety that led to the novelist Bram Stoker borrowing his name for the main character in his book.

Transilvania is actually the largest region in Romania, bounded on the eastern and southern flanks by the great Carpathian Mountains. Its where I'll be going snowboarding in a couple of days.
