Starry Eyed Surprise

The most expensive bird in the garden

This bird cost me just under £200 in Vet bills this morning.

Not the bird itself, its fine for now but in a precarious nesting site in the garden.

Radar, however, is recovering after a slight sedation and pain relief after she spotted the bird on Wednesday.

She leapt up an ivy clad 6 foot fence, realised that she wasn't a cat and couldn't cling on, and fell onto the path with a great thud. She landed very heavily on her side and gave a loud yelp.

I got her up on her feet again, however she has been very lame since. Today the Vet checked her pelvis out and to be on the safe side x-rayed her pelvis too.

It appears to be only muscular damage, so plenty of rest, no walkies and a bottle of metacalm.

At the time of this bizarre event, I looked into the ivy and couldn't see why she had the inclination to jump.

However today I heard a rustling noise from the ivy and followed it carefully until I found this female blackbird sitting in her nest, staring back at me.

I'm not sure whether it would be best to discourage the bird from staying or not.

If the eggs hatch I suspect this will prove to be too much temptation for my resident birders, Rocket and Radar and I fear the worst for the chicks and possibly my bank balance again.
