On the Road
On the road, spending the night in Charleston, South Carolina. Came across Florida on I-4, going past all of the Disney operations.
Stopped for lunch in Brunswick, Georgia. The Georgia Pig.
We've been to a lot of BBQ places across the country. Mustard-based in South Carolina. Vinegar-based in North Carolina. Dry-rub in Kansas City. Even a Texas style beef brisket in West Virginia.
But, the Georgia pig is a special place. We have'nt been for maybe 15-20 years. and obviously they have'nt put much money into the exterior.
Inside, the place is frozen in time. The older lady taking our money was almost rude, almost abrasive. We then moved 10 feet to the north to the pickup area, and was greeted by this homemade sign...Please Don't Stand in Front of the Window. We Will Call Your Name When It's Done.
There are maybe 10 picnic tables set up for inside dining. The one closest to the kitchen area was covered with things.....newspapers ,magazines, a jar of hot sauce, a pack of crackers, a can of air freshener, etc. Another homemade sign stated.....Employee Break Table. Please Don't Touch Their Stuff. At least both signs had all the words spelled correctly.
I wanted to be able to walk out of the place and have at least one person hear me say, "That was some good cue", which I think makes me sound like some sort of barbecue expert. But, the meal was so-so....not nearly as good as I remember. But, still an experience. P.S. That's my wife Lisa walking up the ramp.
