Signs of Spring

When my children were little, we would take a walk on Sunday afternoon after church to look for "Signs of Spring". Sometimes we were hard set to find them, other times the signs were everywhere. We looked for budding plants, birds singing, crocus, daffodils, anything green and encouraging!

Today is a typical spring day in Central Oregon--cold, blowing and snowing. I looked for signs of spring in my yard and found several: a hardy pulsatilla poking up her head, the Maltese Cross bravely growing, one white primrose trying to bloom. But it was my Lady's Mantle by my front porch that gave me hope. Today was a good day for the peaking green leaves amidst the snow. I have learned from sad experience to not remove the old growth too soon, or I will have no flowers!

Spring will come!
