Exciting developments
A clear and crisp Autumn morning today; I had a slow start and a midday run. Got my run photo (as a back up), even though the plan was to head north to the beachhouse. It was put back and down a week ago, having spent almost six weeks raised 3 - 4 metres and moved 5 metres towards the road.. During that time, new foundation piles were put in and the lower level was excavated, concreted and the wooden framework built.
Now that the house is back and stable on the piles and framework, the "real" building is beginning. What the lovely S and her game 91 year old mother (it is not an easy walk from her home to a rough building site) are looking at is the extra building work on the road side of the house. On the lower level we are adding a bathroom for the yoga room (spare room), seen here in the corner. On the upper level is a window seat to give us a western view, including down to Snells Beach.
Peeking into the picture on the left is the store room, which will be set up to have a desk and function as a study/library. The view from the window is quite magic out through the trees on the cliff to Kawau Bay. Might distract me somewhat from the work. The room seen on the upper level here is going to get new doors and windows opening directly onto a large wooden deck out to the pole in the foreground (and a bit beyond). The upper floor is now level, rather than sloping as it was before all this drama.
I am asked by head gardener and landscaper (S) to be sure to say that she is standing almost on the boundary line and she has planned fast growing slender trees to provide a fence and screen between us and the neighbours, so that both we and they can feel a bit less exposed.
I have posted previously when the house was first lifted, and again when the piles were being set to the right level.
I am really very excited by this, and the build remains on schedule.
