A new day dawns....

By Nicdawncav

An ordinary day.

I took the boys to basketball this morning. When we arrived they gathered all the kids together for their first "team" photo which apparently will be in a newspaper much to their delight. Whilst they played I read a chapter of the book I blipped several weeks ago "Raising Cain". The chapter was very engrossing but disturbing at the same time as the subject matter was the culture of cruelty that young adolescent boys face from the age of 11ish onwards. As a mother it is so hard to face the fact that my precious boys probably will have to go through these rites of passage in order to prove themselves. I really hope the authors are wrong and that it is possible for boys to go through adolescence without having to deal with constant verbal and physical taunting, that they will find good, honest friends and that they can grow up without emotional scars.

Well, today has been an ordinary day, lazy even. A good thing after a busy week. I have a full teaching timetable that leaves me quite tired but I do know that I am incredibly lucky with the life I have. I do miss my life in London but the reality is that my life here is much easier than it would be there. There are many bonuses. I mustn't complain.
