Model Making - Day 1
Having focused all my blips on incorporating song titles/themes, I am now changing this for the next two weeks as I create a model for my University project module.
I am then using my blip to illustrate the progression of the production of the model as well as writing a blog about how I have created it.
Background: We were given the brief of choosing a client to design for in order to design an "artefact for display to WOW them". And after completing my folio work, I decided to create a shelfing structure made from sustainable bamboo that lit up using LEDs and reed switches and incorporated Pop Art themes that the client loved.
This is my first day of modelling as I focused on creating th basic frame structure of my model. I found it nearly impossible to source heat treated bamboo so I made a design decision to use bamboo flooring that is easy to manipulate and laminate up to the sizes I required.
I used the bandsaw to shape the bamboo to the dimensions I required and using a pencil and t square i marked the waste to create a a cross halving joint that I was using to construct the peces of bamboo into the basic shape. I then used a marking gauge to mark out these lines and then used a power drill to remove the waste up to the end I needed and again used the bandsaw to cut the rest of the waste away. Finally I used a chisel and mallet to remove the remainder of the waste to create right angles to allow the pieces to slot in together more accurately.
I repeated these steps on four of the frame pieces twice to build the basic frame.
