Went to Wells today for a question and answer session about the council's decision to 'outsource' the adult education service. The first we knew that this might be a possibility was when it was announced on the council's website a few days before Christmas (nice timing and a great way to tell us).
The decision to go for the outsourcing option was taken last week - a decision made by ONE councillor - that's democracy at its finest.
The Suit from County Hall droned on for 45 minutes, perhaps in the hope that we'd be half brain dead and not be capable of asking any questions. That didn't work. The Suit didn't have much in the way of answers (surprise, surprise) but he said that the council didn't want its staff to feel anxious or dispirited.
Bit late for that.
Edit: to add insult to injury, the council has just hired a "business improvement director" for six months - at £800 a day!!!
