A no-nonsense post for today:

This is Garold LaRue and he is probably on the phone here making a business deal. Garold (pronounced Gare--like bare--uld) just opened his own coffee shop, Avoca Coffee, in the trendy and up-and-coming Southside section of town here and he took us into what he dubbed his 'test kitchen' to give us a mini-tour. I met him last year, actually, when he and Leah worked together at the outdoor store. We immediately clicked on account of the fact that we'd both lived in the small, close-knit southeastern Alaskan town of Juneau for some years (during different periods, however) and thus had frequented a lot of the same coffee shops and other businesses. So, there was that in addition to the fact I could tell he had a similarly dark--borderline perverse--sense of humor. But he quit the outfitters to pursue his dream of one day opening his own coffee store. On Wednesday of this week, that dream finally happened for him and it has been a raging success thus far, with Facebook and local media buzzing about the grand return of the local roaster/coffee depot. Best of luck and continued success to him!

So, before heading over to Avoca, Leah and I had an afternoon beer break across the street at the locally famous vegan joint, Spiral Diner. While we were there, my friend Chris called me about riding bikes and to tell me about the short film is he making this weekend. We also saw Robin, the owner/operator of Fairmount Bike Taxi, zoom by us and head in to grab a coffee, as well as another friend of the local cycling community, Michael, fresh back from a trip to San Francisco (and as a point of notation regarding good taste, Michael is the only other person in Fort Worth I have seen that rides a Masi).

Thus it was a great Saturday with my love and my new found friends--I have only really been living here now for about five months. But, alas, back to studying in the sauna and impending conversations about what to make for dinner and what movie to relax to together as the sun sets. It's blazingly banal but so fucking true today: life is good.

Cheers, friends.
