Inspiration

I blame Follow The Sapper as the inspiration for today's Blip trip. He's definitely worth a subscription, btw!

Only a couple of miles from home, where I've been living for twenty five years next month, is the Newtownards Road cemetery. It's a place I've never visited before today and it's kept in immaculate condition by whoever is in charge there. I'm in no way religious, but visits to cemeteries always bring me down to earth with a bit of a bump.
Two things struck me as interesting about this cemetery; firstly the sense of history available to anyone who wants to peruse the headstones, including a memorial to ship called the Antrim which went down with all hands in 1902, to a grave for two relatives, both airmen, who fell serving their country in two world wars, and secondly, the serenity of the cemetery despite it's proximity to the surrounding housing (as you can see from my Blip shot). There is no sign of any vandalism or graffiti anywhere. Nice to see some respect for history.
