Hospital cooking

These ladies are the hospital cooks bringing in the rice that is provided by the hospital for the patients. It is supposed to be provided twice a day but currently due to lack of money it is only provided once. The rice is steamed in an old corrugated iron shed at the back of the hospital. The relatives of the patients cook the fish, meat and vegetables to go with the rice.Cooking areas are provided near to the wards. All the cooking is done on open fire clay pots If you walk round the hospital at about 11 o clock in the morning the smells of the food being prepared is wonderful. Note that one of the cooks is wearing her pyjamas, which as I commented on in a previous blip is very normal here . The other lady is wearing a face mask. She probably has a cough or sore throat and believes that wearing the mask will stop germs spreading. The masks come in lots of different colours and patterns so that it almost becomes a fashion item!
