Urban Renewal

I have commandeered the back yard and cut away the vines that have dominated it for as long as the reach of anyone's memory. A few old features have been brought to light by my shovel, e.g. the section of concrete that dog-legs down along the fence, some slate pathways, and the remnants of a lamp post. The owner has known the property for about 35 years and he knew nothing of these things.

Next on the agenda is to haul away the piles of debris and build a few raised beds. After that, to plant (heirloom) Long Island Cheese Pumpkins in defiance of the shade trees and in homage to my native place.

I'm already getting much satisfaction out of this garden.
