Portlandia

Today is actually March 10th but posting my last pic from the trip to the desert. March 10th - yes once thought as a national holiday to me. My birthday. 34 years ago today i was birthed... always funny to me if you really think about birthdays - its a little strange. yet for the last 34 years (yes even when i was turning 1) i have put a lot expectations on this day - no clue why. When i think of others peoples bday - its a momentary thought yet when its mine - everyone should be thinking about it all day. Most likely this could be why every one of my birthdays has been somewhat of a disappointment. But really only to my expectations.
Personally birthdays are important - its literally one day out of there year everyone recognizes you. its not christmas where you may get a gift and then its on to the next person or valentines day where you are more focused on the other person to enjoy yourself. Its the one day where its actually weird to find someone else you know that shares the same day - making this day an unique personal holiday for you and you alone.
Today was different than the previous 33. I didnt build it up - i am 34 but still - tried to treat it like any other day. And it was. Most would never even know unless you told them.
Close friends and family sent personal notes, emails etc - all greatly appreciated. But mostly went on with my day - with no expectations. it was honestly nice not making a deal out of it. Lunch and dinner with the wife - deciding on of our favorite places in portland - Screen Door for some wine, hush puppies and a stuff pork loin.... topping it of with the greatest desert in the city of Portland - Banoffee. do it. do it. trust me.
Ended the night with a visit from reverend powell bearing a newly rented lens and hanging out for a few beers.
This is a pic of portland as we landed back from the desert. Greatest city on earth - why - because of the people. Good people here.
34 years later and i think i figured out this birthday day deal. it was a good day.
