Boy Genius

Apparently :)

Had his 2-yr developmental check today, which he totally aced. Scoring at 3-yrs old for half of it, and just ahead of his age for the rest. He's 28 months old. No problems. And he even gave the health visitor a cuddle to say goodbye :) I don't normally go in for the whole boasting about my boy kind of thing, I mean the stuff that he does that I go "wow!" at I share but I don't really have much time for competitiveness. But today he did me proud and I'm happy to tell the world that he did so :) I think I'm more pleased that he actually did stuff at the check up, rather than just decide to clam up and be all shy!

Then we had an hour to kill before seeing the GP about his persistent cough. Ben was a model patient, letting the doctor listen to his heart and his lungs, letting him see his skin to check for rashes, letting him press his tummy to make sure there was nothing untoward going on there, letting him look in his ears, and even opening his mouth and letting him look at his throat! Turns out he's got a mild case of viral tonsillitis, which is getting his temp up slightly (it's about 38C which is just uncomfortable more than anything) and making his throat sore and his ears sore as a result. No signs that it's bacterial, so no need for antibiotics. Keep making sure he drinks plenty, and give brufen/calpol to ease pain and reduce temp. If it gets worse then we go back.

Poor thing though bless him he hasn't had a nap all day as a result of us trekking out to Steyning for HV and GP, didn't get a chance to sleep in between, and didn't get chance for a nap before Steve got home as we ended up at Steve's work saying hello to another new baby and eating chocolate brownie. And then waiting for Steve and coming home all together. And of course Ben fell asleep on the way home, didn't want to wake up when we got it, snuggled for a bit on my lap, then let me put him onto his bed fully dressed. He woke up just now screaming his head off and was VERY displeased when daddy went upstairs. We managed to get him to take some brufen, and got him into pyjamas eventually, without forcing him, managing to get him calmed enough down for him to let us undress and re dress him. And he was calm by the time he got back into his bed, and peaceful by the time he fell asleep.

Steve and I had pancakes without Ben in the end. Very yummy. Cheese and mayo, lemon and sugar, raspberries and cream and chocolate spread.... mmmmmmm. Ben can have pancakes for breakfast and lunch tomorrow, there's a fresh pot of batter in the fridge! We stayed talking in the kitchen for ages, Steve and I. I love my kitchen. We have some of our best conversations there, talking over a drink or toast or pancakes. Talking this evening about Love. About how in God we have the perfect model of unconditional love, and how we as humans still insist on doing it our way and imposing all these conditions on the love we show. I love our conversations. I still think it's funny how we decide to continue our conversation in the living room where it's more comfortable, and then the conversation just stops!! Too many other distractions in there. Except Steve's rediscovered music (he's brought home a toy from work on test aka long term loan aka they'll never ask for it back because it would have otherwise gone in the bin, so it's been set up and playing some good music this evening) and so we could continue our conversation in the living room because there was good music on in the background instead of the tv.

Mmmmm pancakes.

Breakfast.

Looking forward to it already!!!
