Dainty delicious desserts
Busy day today. Dentist for me and younger son first thing and then off to London for an afternoon meeting with our US technology partners.
After the meeting we headed off to a weird and wonderful wine bar underneath Charing Cross station. It looked and smelled like a creepy cellar. The walls were covered with old newspaper covers (with a thick patina of grime over the glass) and the rooms were lit by candles. We eventually managed to find a table and some seats and enjoyed a great bottle of Spanish red. The bar had been found by one of our US friends - I'm not sure how she manages to scout out these original venues Gordon's wine bar).
She had also chosen our dinner venue - again a great choice (Commonwealth Kitchen). We had to ask the waitress about most of the dishes as they had lots of unusual ingredients (kenky? ratte potatoes?). One of the menus had a Ghana theme - apparently the menu changes country each week. My boss risked the snail puree - I was happy to give that one a miss!
We ordered about 6 desserts and shared them - all of them were fantastic. The picture shows Blood orange jelly, blood orange gratin, sweetened fennel and chilli crumble. My favourite was probably Warmed Valrhona dark chocolate sponge, eucalyptus and mint parfait - an incredible blend of flavours - shame there was only enough for a small spoonful each.
Back home around 11, in bed by 12 having set the alarm for 6 am ready to go back again for a full day's meetings (hence the belated blip).
