Pipe down
Major drama this afternoon!
This innocent looking water pipe joint gave me a bit of a headache today. In short it separated, spraying mains pressure water all over the kitchen for a good five minutes.
The long version: I was continuing with our kitchen project, phase one, old kitchen removal. The old kitchen must have been fitted before the central heating system so there was a gas pipe to the boiler through a hole in the side of the one of the old units. All very neat but it meant that to remove the unit, it had to be destroyed. It seems that the sawing action against one of the nearby water pipes was enough to loosen the union seen in the picture. I first noticed when my hair started getting wet. What ensued was a fairly mad panic, some confusion and a vast amount of anglo saxon language. In the panic I thought I had isolated the main stop cock but actually I'd closed the wrong one. It took me some time to work that out by which point, seemingly the entire kitchen was soaked. Dehumidifier is now running overtime.
I really hope this is the first and last DIY disaster for this project.
Some more positive stuff:
Today we bought floor tiles, wall tiles, kitchen light, paint. I also bought a bargain Dewalt cordless drill in B&Q. £199 to £84. I've not used it yet other than to pretend that I am a robot. Oh and I bought an electric screw driver as well. Why I didn't buy one years ago, I've no idea.
