Reasons to visit Thirsk 4
Feeling a bit jaded this morning after last night's frivolity! Still, had to go into Thirsk for the Saturday morning market. In recent years, Thirsk and surrounding area have become known as Herriot country. You may remember the series 'All Creatures Great and Small' on TV some years ago about the life of a vet, (fictional name James Herriot), working in North Yorkshire. The actual vet was Alf Wight and this is where he practised. He was much loved and is still fondly remembered by many of my older neighbours. Sadly, Alf died 2 years before we came to live here but we use the new vetinary practice that was set up after the old one was closed and turned into a museum. Visitors from around the world come to visit as the series was shown in many countries. The museum is extremely well set out and little has been altered in the living quarters of the house. Whenever I have a new visitor to stay I always take them, after several visits I still enjoy indulging in the nostagia it conjures up.
