David's Prayer Scarf

In 1998 two graduates of the Women's Leadership Institute at The Hartford Seminary in Hartford, Connecticut gave birth to a ministry. Compassion and the love of knitting/crocheting have been combined into a prayerful ministry and spiritual practice which reaches out to those in need of comfort and solace, as well as in celebration and joy. Many blessings are prayed into every shawl.

Whether they are called Prayer Shawls, Comfort Shawls or Peace Shawls or Scarves ,the shawl maker begins with prayers and blessings for the recipient. The intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. On completion, a final blessing is offered before the shawl is sent on its way

I began my own prayer scarf project in November, Today's photo is scarf number 21 and one of only four made for men - the other three being my brother Roger, my son in law Ben and Milo who is a very small man aged four.

I finished this scarf two days ago for my friend David. We have been crisscrossing each other's routes over the last few months both travelling to and from Warwickshire where our elderly mums are both very poorly. I made David?s scarf out of alpaca wool whilst keeping vigil on Castle Ward, Warwick Hospital.

We haven't managed to coincide on our travels until today.

Tonight I will be giving David his prayer scarf as a late birthday present over fish and chips.
