What a lovely day

Inspired by a good weather forecast last night i was up sharp and on my bike at 07:30 this morning with Dunbar in my sights. It was a touch grey as I cycled through the commuter busy streets of Edinburgh, but I was soon 'out the other side' and passing through Tranent. Quiet country roads led me to Gifford, a village I've always enjoyed visiting. A stop at the Newsagent for refreshments before reaching slightly hillier roads and the village of Stenton, which looked idyllic on what was fast becoming a stunning spring morning and I thought to myself that I've never seen East Lothian looking so fine as it was today. Downhill at speed and I was soon at Dunbar resisting the urge to call in at Bellhaven Brewery for further refreshments. Childhood memories took me down to the harbour, where 25 years ago I used to catch dinner-plate sized flounders and the odd saithe.

Turning back to Edinburgh I was soon aware that there was actually a slight breeze and it was now in my face along slightly busier coast roads through Gullane, Longniddry, Cockenzie, Portobello etc. and then soon the familiar shorefront of Cramond and a quick jaunt up the River Almond to home.

A stunning day and my face is glowing slightly in the way that it does after a day of sunshine. 134.96kms or 84 miles in 6 hours.

Think I'll be a tad sore tomorrow.
