My name is Debbi, and live in northwestern New Jersey, surrounded by farms and forests, but less than 1.5 hours from NYC. In 2009, while recovering from surgery for a brain tumor, I rediscovered my love of photography. I treated myself to a Nikon D90 and started taking pictures again. Most of them end up in the "deleted" file, but sometimes I get exactly what I envisioned and it feels like magic!
In 2013, I went full-frame with a brand new Nikon D600. And in 2015, I added a D750 to the arsenal. And in 2018, my husband surprised me with a D850 which was my very favorite piece of gear... until I got a Z-8 mirrorless in 2023! I've bought and sold a number of lenses but now have a stable of 5 that I like quite well - a Nikon 28-300, a Nikon 105 Macro, and Nikon 55 f/2.8, a Sigma 100-400, and my all-time favorite, the Nikon 300 f/4 prime lens with phase fresnel glass. Haven't started adding Z-lenses yet, but expect to change that soon. And when I’m short on time or don’t have the right gear, I’m perfectly happy using the camera in my iPhone!.
What I've learned about myself is that I love nature so most of my shots are of birds, bugs and things outside. My hubby and I are owned by two cats and a dog (joined our family in fall of 2021), so you will occasionally see them here, when they deign to be photographed. I also like experimenting with the occasional street scene when I'm in NYC, as well as the odd landscape. I am learning as I go, so always welcome suggestions and tips!
And I'd like to say a special thanks to one of my dearest blip-friends, Sefferdog, for taking my profile picture - even though I didn't know he was taking it! June 2016 at St. Augustine Alligator Farm rookery.
