Photography became an interest when I joined the Senior Net Digital Camera group some years back. Having to photograph something on a theme for each monthly meeting soon taught me some skills. Speakers and workshops improved on them. However it was getting a new, bigger and better camera with a x 50 lens that saw me join Blip. I wanted to use the camera every day and learn its many aspects. Blip is certainly making me do that.
I live in the Tasman Bay area surrounded by so many opportunities to photograph everything from mountains to sea, rivers to bush as well as gardens and birds. I am enjoying showing our lovely part of the country to the world.
I am lucky my Southlander husband wanted to live here after we met in Wellington over 40 years ago as most of my extended family live here.
Together we have run a wide range of small businesses from fish and chips to Frosty Boy, fuchsia nursery to tomato glasshouses ending up with a driving school and driving industry training courses.
Now retired I thought it would be all gardening, reading and continuing my main interest of genealogy and local history. I am secretary for the local historical association and help at the research room they run at the local museum.
However Blip is changing that. I am enjoying the challenge of getting a photo on site every day and learning what makes a good photo. But it all takes time.
I am enjoying looking at other people’s efforts and getting to know such a diverse range of people and interacting with them with a common interest. I’m not very competitive but I see I can do one Blip a day so am here for the long haul.
