My sister and her partner were long term blippers, and I had been following their photos, and browsing other blippers for a long time. Then my daughters bought me a nice digital camera for my birthday.
I've had a number of cameras over the years, and never really got the full potential from them. I was never good at spotting the opportunities for photos, except the blatantly obvious.
So the obvious solution was to start blipping. My partner bought me a bridge camera for my next birthday. Now at nearly 3 years, I am addicted. I still work part time, and not infrequently find myself stalking the house late in the evening, looking for something/anything to photograph. And I still mainly use the camera on automatic. But I HAVE to blip.
I promise, once I retire, I will explore the potential of using the camera on manual.
