Like fabulous yellow roman candles

This may be one of the top 10 photos I've ever taken. It's composition isn't perfect and I'm still noisier at night than I want to be, but I love the way everything comes together and when you consider how spontaneously I took the photo (and without tripod), I think it improves even further.

We plodded through inches of mud, the kind that makes a disgusting squish when walked through, intertwining our steps through small luminaries and trying to find high ground, rewarded at last by the 6th Annual Illuminated Garden at Ballard Park in Newport.

I took more photos than I imagined I would and J served faithfully as my makeshift tripod at times, ultimately making the experience even better. Our fingers froze and our shoes grew soggy with mud, but ultimately, I think our random finds are often our best.
