Rights of passage
This morning after weeks of hinting from everyone,my son went into the bathroom and picked up the razor for the first time.
With much concentration and lots of direction from my boyfriend,he came through this right of passage without a cut or a nick.
Kurt had been putting it off for a while & had grown a beautiful,if not a little strange bumfluff mo. He had also cultivated the odd super long mutant hair coming out of his chin.
It seems it was time & Kurt taking direction with glee after weeks of denial; stood in front of the bathroom mirror and took a step by step shaving lesson with Rob.
Two foamy faces one looking more worried than the other. Something a mother wasn't allowed to be involved in until near the end. Kurt looked, after weeks of dread so pleased with his new smooth face.
Today really did bring back memories of when I was at school and was told I needed to shave my legs for the first time. Hitting puberty early I found was no laughing matter. I took a certain amount of stick for having pubic hair & large breasts from an early age. One day I'd had enough of the taughting. I went home and without telling my mother, I picked up a razor from the bathroom cabinet.
I proceeded to get in the bath and shave my legs for the first time. I took half of my shin skin off with the hair. I think I had removed more skin than hair to be honest. I had a mad panic when I couldn't stop it bleeding. This experiment had resulted in a huge scab for weeks & mum had blood all over white her towels.
Soon after I was bought a lady shave which I used until I could master a razor with confidence.
How lucky are the teens of today to have moisture strips, multi blades, guards, springed & vibrating razor heads.
I'm sure he will have plenty of nicks and cuts in his time. But today we said goodbye to the bumfluff & said hello to the thought my son is one step closer to being a man.
