Eider Up
The great thing about Staithes is the you don't have to go far for your birding fix. The cliffs overlooking the harbour are packed with Herring Gulls and speckled with Jackdaw, Rock Dove and Fulmar. The Harbour itself has resident Mallard and Cormorant, and from time to time has more exotic visitors.
This male Eider had appeared with some females a few days earlier and one of the friendly locals had told me to keep an eye out for it at high tide. Sure enough, bold as brass, it swam in on the tide, had a quick look round the harbour and swam out.
A great Year Tick!!
