feeling, touching and learning...
Fantastic day in Edinburgh with the children - what a fab city to wander about in.
Ended up exploring the castle late afternoon pretty much on our own, which was wonderful. I was completely entranced by the Honours of Scotland and with no crowds was able to really take my time to soak it all up. History was my major at University so it is natural that I relish it but I also feel that coming from New Zealand, I find that everything that is built over a hundred or so years deeply enthralling to me...
None of that has rubbed off on my kids of course who managed to instead climb each cannon and jump off every wall that they could. They liked the prisoner's quarters but only so they could terrify each other and after the tour through the Honours of Scotland, looked blankly at me when I asked them if they thought the story was interesting!
However I did capture Zachary in a moment that sums him up completely. He is incredibly tactile and touches and fiddles with everything. I loved watching him as he ran his hand along the castle wall - maybe not taking it all in in the traditional sense but hopefully getting a feel for what it is all about...
