Birthday lunch for Laura

This is no. 1 (of 1) daughter. I have a son too. His name is Julian - he didn't make the pic.

Her name is Laura and she is now into her mid/late twenties. She is beautiful - in case you hadn't noticed - and has a degree in Fine Art. Her major? Photography - naturally ;-)

She makes a pretty good Blip too.

She works for a media production company in Cape Town and like so many young South Africans, will soon leave the country for pastures greener (and safer). Her brother will doubtless follow her.

I will be devastated when they go, but their mum and I will put on our brave faces and know that wherever they go, they will only ever be a flight away.

Lunch? Reubens, the award winning restaurant in Franshhoek, between Stellenbosh and Paarl. It's the heart of our wine growing region and we celebrated with several bottles of appetising rose, followed by several more of a new viognier/white grenache blend. Prawns, steaks, scallops, curries and tartares abounded and having navigated the lengthy drive back home, sleep now beckons...
