Stuart's New Steed
Stuart picked up his new bike frame this morning, a Commencal Meta 55, and in a fit of excitement he wanted to build it today so we could go out this afternoon for its maiden journey, although, as with most bike building, things didn't go to plan, first of all we couldn't get the ISIS drive RaceFace cranks off, no problems or so we thought, we can just put everything else on and deal with the chainset later, then I noticed the bottom bracket bearings on his previous bike were shot too, then something wasn't quite right with the back wheel, it wouldn't sit in the frame properly so we headed off to the bike shop to pick up a few bits and bobs before trying again.
We got back and sorted out the chainset and fitted a new bottom bracket, then I picked up the spare drop out to compare it to the one currently on the bike and sure enough it was bent, not in the usual way either, it had obviously taken a knock from behind, bending it forward just enough to stop the axle sitting in it.
Eventually we got to a point as shown by the bike in the picture, the last thing to put on was the front mech, but as with everything today, his old mech is top pull, and the Commencal Meta needs a bottom pull, at this point we gave up!
