Hip roof barn.
St. Vrain valley farms all had these types of barns. Back then, having milk cows, chickens, hogs etc was necessary to feed the local population. Irrigation water supplied by canals were diverted from streams of snow run-off water.
Now, in recent years, farms have been sold to developers, the water right were sold to municipalities and anger grew amoungst remaining farmers who thought selling water rights was right up there with mutiny. The reasons(s) were, selling land to developers increase the value of their land and increase taxes paid on that land. Water was shared between senior water rights with junior water rights holders. With the senior right sold to municipalities that shorted junior water right holders because municipalities could care less if your crops died to lack of water. You see, this area is dry in the summer and without irrigation water your crops don't have a chance in most years.
In addition to municipalities buying up water rights, second were law firms. These firms won't sell water rather, the water is leased. This adds constant revenue to the firms from year to year. Seems each year, water is getting more expensive. To the benefit of water rights holders.
