The Whitehall
Went into East Grinstead for a walk today and grabbed this. The Whitehall is an Art Deco building built in the 1930s with a cinema and a parade of shops - time of local indifference haven't been overly kind to it but it is still magnificent. It is also the place where 108 people died during WWII when a German bomber, a straggler from a raid on London, tried to attack the railway station as a target of opportunity rather than returning to base with a full bomb-bay. The cinema was hit as were a number of shops on the High Street - it was the biggest loss of life from any air raid in Sussex.
So there you are - history in a blip :-)
