Kingsburgh Steading

Today we drove out to the start of the road to Kingsburgh. We walked down past the old Kingsburgh House and past these old steadings. It is hard to believe that once upon a time this would have been a thriving livelyhood for the family.

Now the business and the money are gone. The family members died leaving one spinster with no income. The grounds and the old house have gradually fallen into disrepair. Even these old steadings are neglected and collapsing. Progress? What progress?

We walked on following the estate stone wall that unlike the house and steadings is in remarkable fine state. We walked down to the shore of Loch Snizort and returned along the shore and eventually walked back up and through the old township. I guess in all we walked about four miles over fairly rough terrain.

On our walk we saw evidence of Otters that had marked their territory with faeces. Unfortunately we didn't see the Otters.

The wind was strong and blowing into our faces much of that walk. The wind was laden with fine Scotch mizzle (that is a cross between mist and drizzle). A bracing walk and one that we both enjoyed. It was good though to get back to the van to return home for tea.
