Waxwing
Apologies for the poor quality, my digital zoom just isn't meant to go half-way across our backyard. Here's a better picture of the same kind of bird.
Quite exciting really, sat in the kitchen having breakfast with the kids when this group of six funny crested birds settled in the tree at the far end of the garden/drying green/yard. I got the binoculars out and started to try and identify the bird. Only two options (according to our 'garden bird' chart hanging up in the kitchen) of garden birds with crests, the crested tit and a waxwing. Hm, which one to choose? Examining this - very poor quality - blip a little later in the office I made my mind up that this must indeed be a group of waxwings because crested tits don't have any yellow or red in their feathers.
Because of all this twitching I was really late to get the kids to nursery and school and behaved like the worst kind of mother, shouting at them all the way, making them hurry when they were at full speed and just being annoyed (and annoying to them, no doubt). Oh well, just one of these mornings. Then non-stop people traffic in the office and building. Came home to relax with a cup of tea before starting again on the chores.
Can't wait to have yet another cuppa and to continue reading 'Gaudy Night', great language and quite a mystery just now, no idea whodunnit at all.
Oh, and managed to hurt my thumb on a small rusty staple that went right in am monitoring it but should never have looked at any tetanus related entries on the web, I'm now wondering when I last had a vaccination...
Spring seems to be not too far off now, it was warm enough to take off the coats for a little while on the way back home.
