Clementine - not so spotless mind

Why is it that you can seem so great and exciting to someone in the beginning and at some point earlier or later you loose this being all shiny and sensational?
Is it better to peel of the skin soon or to try to keep it polished and intact for a long while even when inside you start to rot???
