Beer o'clock

Spent the evening fiddling with my newish Canon G9. For love or money I can't get the flash to work. If you press the flash button nothing happens. Flash Options on the menu is greyed out. It's like it doesn't exist - it doesn't matter what setting you have the camera on, or what light conditions - the flash doesn't fire. I hate to believe it's bust after only a week but it's looking that way - I've run out of ideas. Restored to factory settings and still nothing.

Any advice blippers?

I'll contact Canon I think. Or ask for a new one through the retailer? Don't really want a brand new camera repairing already.

EDIT And after all that, taking the memory card out and returning it solved the problem - weird....
