The wall acts as a corridor to the trees at the top of the hill, which today were shrouded in mist. These corridors are used by a number of different species to get from one haven to another. These, as you can see, are necessary as the ploughed fields offer little cover for the small mammals. However when they are hunted by for example Owls, this encourages the Owls to move into the trees and then beyond.
