I-5 Interstate Bridge over Columbia River

The Interstate Bridge (also Columbia River Interstate Bridge, I-5 Bridge, Portland-Vancouver Interstate Bridge, Vancouver-Portland Bridge) is a pair of nearly identical steel vertical lift, through truss bridges that carry Interstate 5 traffic over the Columbia River between Vancouver, Washington, and Portland, Oregon, in the United States. First opened to traffic in 1917 with a second span opening in 1958, the bridge handles 121,400 vehicles daily (as of 2008).[2] The green structure, which is over 3,500 ft (1,067 m) long, carries traffic over three northbound lanes and three southbound lanes.

That is from Wikipedia. The rest is from me! We went to downtown Vancouver today and then came back on the scenic route which takes you to this park. We stopped so I could have a photo opportunity. The day is lovely today, but a bit on the brisk side. Down by the river, the cold breeze made walking a bit uncomfortable. There is a long riverside walking "trail" that is really nice for joggers, walkers, bikers, etc. It is paved and wide and very user friendly. This bridge is slated for demolition as Portland and Vancouver debate what to do and how to do it, with regards to getting up a new and better bridge. This is the ONLY drawbridge on the I-5 which goes from Canada to Mexico. A single sailboat is capable of stopping traffic in both directions for 10 minutes as it glides under the bridge. There are some limits, I believe, on when the sailboat can do that, but boats and ships mostly have the right of way over cars. It is an old bridge and terribly outdated. Should be interesting when construction begins on a new structure someday.
