Be-Feathered
Remember this blip and Skye-the-chicken's scraggly moult? All in the past now as she struts out with a new set of feathers. She's a pretty thing (I can't quite believe I'm saying this about a chicken), a lovely blue-grey with all of the feathers lined in dark, her neck and head crowning in black feathers.
That said, I still think Ruby, black and ginger, small and feisty, with a floppy comb, is my favourite. Skye is much bigger. Bigger actually then Margot and Missy as well. But firmly bottom of the pecking order. But with her feathers back, plumped up, and knowing she's back on the lay, she's looking full of life again (seriously, compare that shot with the blip linked to above, it's like night and day).
We're even getting the occasional egg from the old girls now as well - spring must definitely be on its way.
So what of the day itself? Spending a fortune at the Farmers Market, getting baking stuff from Lakeland, indulging in the Chinese Supermarket, and loading up at Pets at Home for the chooks and wild birds. The big night of baking, following Mel buying me Lorraine Pascale's new book, scuppered somewhat by the butter needed not being delivered with the shopping. So the new baking kit was left in the cupboard as I made do with making some honeycomb. Proper rot-your-teeth sugary loveliness.
So as far as rainy Saturdays go... It wasn't half bad.
