Memento Mori.
The faded palimpsest of a skull and crossed-bones in North Leith Graveyard on Coburg Street is testament to the antiquity of the setting.
This motif was common for the mid Seventeenth Century, from which the location dates; a reminder of the mortality of man - and more intriguingly, a symbol that the deceased was also a freemason.
