Even flies can be beautiful - fly cleaning wings

Fly on a marigold, using its back legs to clean the wings. Although when you think about them they are disgusting, they still have a beauty in their form and colours - ultimately ideally adapted for the niche they inhabit in habitat.

They have a metallic sheen and a hairy body.

The maggots of this fly are the type used in maggot therapy before antibiotics etc.

They are also used to establish time of death in human bodies where people have died in unexplained circumstances.

Researchers are trying to make the substance that enables the flies to be used medically since it can be used to cure super bugs like MRSA - they want to be able to use it without needing to apply maggots.

The flies prefer dead flesh to live, but cause problems with sheep, laying eggs in the wool.
