Who'll pay the ferryman ....
Yet more creativity today, Ann Martin was back in the classroom sketching the children. She has a very calm and sympathetic presence and her drawings are amazing. I was going to blip one then had doubts and concerns about copyright and permission so have erred on the safe side, boringly.
Met a friend at lunchtime and we went for a swim and jacuzzi. We used to do this regularly but realized we hadn't been, for one reason and another, for over two years. The pool was lovely and quiet though I have to confess more lounging in the jacuzzi was done than hectic swimming up and down. We finished off with a sauna so I am now pink and glowing.
On my way home I stopped off at the new quay in Bantry and as luck should have it, the car ferry was just disembarking its load - 3 vehicles! I was quite impressed at it looks a bit of a rust bucket and not big enough to swing a cat but no, a lorry and two 4x4s came off in record time. The ferry operates between Bantry and Whiddy Island, about a mile across the bay. Whiddy island is home to about 200 souls and an oil terminal. Sadly it's most remembered for a disaster in the 1970s when an oil tanker exploded causing big loss of life and severe pollution. Today all was quiet, apart from two amorous swans - well one was more keen than the other! C'est la vie!
