Making Mulch
The usual meeting location for today's NSEA (Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association) committee meeting wasn't available, so we met at the NSEA office. As I came out of the office after the meeting, I heard the sound of heavy machinery coming from the field where we store the LWD (Large Woody Debris) that we place in rivers to improve fish habitat.
This is what I found when I went to investigate. The yellow Volvo thing was dumping wood scraps in the large white machine, which was grinding them up to make mulch. The fragrant smell of cedar and fir sap was almost strong enough to overcome the diesel exhaust fumes.
We have a pretty good inventory of LWD ready for deployment in the summer. You can see it here.
