The Old School Bell
This is about the only thing that is old in our local school.
We're all falling over whiteboards and computers. State of the art, we are now.
This bell has been replaced by 'Avon calling' electronic bells, and is heard only when children are feeling rebellious, or when they think all the teachers have gone home.
They used to be seen in all state schools in New South Wales, and I suspect were standard issue in the late 19th, early 20th centuries, though very few schools would have retained them.
I am very fond of it as it symbolises for me the once great public school system in which I was educated and have taught for many years.
