In His Element
Here's a typical youth of today in his element, fully immersed in World of Warcraft.
Is hanging out in a virtual world better than hanging out in the real world? If so in what ways?
Is relaxing by participating in a multi-player online game more healthy than passively watching TV?
...however our Robin is entitled to chill after participating in a real world intergenerational forum after school today. Transition Stroud is helping make links between the Older Persons Forum and Stroud Youth Council to work on Love Food Hate Waste which is a project working to reduce food waste. Some of the older persons remember war time rationing and have a very different attitude to waste than the youth of today. They're wanting to set up various educational forums to encourage young people to learn to cook, use less processed foods and minimise waste. Inspiring stuff...
So can World of Warcraft help address real world problems? Sounds daft maybe... but perhaps it does teach something about working together to achieve a task that can't be done without being part of a cooperating team.
