Sayounara Oranges

This is the last picture of oranges for this season.

Today we picked the tree clean, about a bushel and a half of oranges and will set them out tomorrow for garbage pickup.

The frost last week was a killer. It was on the order of 15 degrees F for two consecutive nights and it was actually worse than a frost. It was a freeze. All of the oranges had turned pithy inside when the frost damaged the cells and the moisture was gone. The oranges were beyond recovery and were not even useful for juice.

Note the leaves. they have turned yellow and brown and are very dry. They are falling off like a deciduous tree - unusual for a tree that is normally evergreen.

The pink grapefruit tree was damaged but survived and the fruits are dropping but are edible.
